With pajamas on and pop-tarts in hand, Rick and Ben talk about Saturday morning cartoons. Our hosts revisit the shows they shared with their families, characters that stuck with them and theme songs that rocked. Not every show can stand the test of time, but the memories they brought continue to last.

There was a block of cartoons on CBS Saturday morning’s in 1986 that I was fond of. Pee-Wee’s Playhouse (not technically a cartoon, but he did show some cartoons when the King of Cartoons arrived), followed by Teen Wolf (which was based on the hit Michael J. Fox film) and Galaxy High School, which was about a popular jock and a nerdy female bookworm who were chosen to go to school at Galaxy High. Here’s some trivia about Galaxy High School- Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson) did the voices for some characters on the show. The theme song and some of the show’s music was written and performed by Don Felder of The Eagles, and the show was conceived by director Chris Columbus. The series only lasted 12-13 episodes and was released on dvd in the late 2000’s.

    • I watched Pee-Wee’s Playhouse a lot. Such a bizarre and loud show, which may be why it was so appealing as a kid. I cannot imagine enjoying much at this age.

I can kind of picture the Teen Wolf cartoon in my head, but I do not remember Galaxy High School at all. I am guessing it did not have a lot of replay on TV after its initial run. Researching it, there was a lot of cartoons out there that I do not remember apart from knowing the title.
