ThePastCast was a weekly podcast dedicated to discussing pop culture topics from the past. Each week focused on a different theme as Rick and Ben talked about their experiences growing up. Episodes last roughly 45 minutes and cover a broad range of categories including video games, books, television, movies, board games, fashion, music and toys. The show ran from November 2014 to November 2016. Since the show covers topics from the past, it is never too late to jump in and listen.
Rick Brose – Born in 1980, Rick grew up in a small town in Illinois. Living in a neighborhood filled with other kids, Rick could be found at the local pool or playing a variety of outdoor activities like tag, basketball and football. But their real love was found in various forms of indoor entertainment. Introduced to Pong and Atari at a young age, their love for video games grew over the years from the NES to the Genesis and beyond. Rick also found his attention captured by cartoons like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats and G.I. Joe; books like Watership Down, The BFG and the Dragonlance series; and movies like Back to the Future, The Brave Little Toaster and the underrated classic Mannequin. Rick’s love for pop culture continues to flourish. You can find them and all their current projects at their website, www.rickbrose.com.
Ben Wilda – Born in 1986 and raised in northeastern Wisconsin, Ben grew up trying a little of everything. Sports were a first and frequent love, but reading, music, biking, fishing, video games and computers were all big parts of his childhood. These experiences helped foster the hobbies and obsessions of Ben’s adult life. When he isn’t spending time with friends and family, you might find him out on the bike trail, inside making music, catching up on his enormous Steam backlog or firing up a classic console for some old school fun. Ben loves new trends and technologies, but also enjoys going back to the things that helped shape his current passions.
